Electrical Equipment Safety Regime Review

ERAC developed a Preliminary Regulation Impact Statement (PRIS).
Based on comments from industry, government agencies and other interested parties, ERAC revised the preferred option of the PRIS and developed the final Regulation Impact Statement (RIS).

The final RIS was approved by ERAC in May 2009.

The RIS has now been signed by six Ministers, responsible for Electrical Safety. The Final RIS and signatures are available for viewing here

ERAC is now progressing with the implementation of the new Electrical Equipment Safety System (EESS). This implementation will include:

  • a national database for the registration of responsible suppliers and the registration of electrical equipment
  • a supporting website for the databases
  • a co-ordinated approach to regulatory enforcement for participating members
  • consistent electrical equipment requirements across Australia and New Zealand.

Implementation is scheduled to be introduced from 1 July 2011.

ERAC will continue posting updated information on the implementation process on its website. If you have further questions or comments regarding the RIS or its offsets, please contact the ERAC Secretariat via email at erac@justice.qld.gov.au.
